Ohio River - Meldahl Dam - Longnose Gar & Freshwater Drum

Longnose Gar - Meldahl Dam - Ohio River
The drive out to Meldahl was worth it.  We chalked up two personal bests this trip.  This was the last of the three fish we caught, but also the most exciting.  Had been wanting to drive out to Meldahl for awhile.  We chose to fish from the beach instead of from the pier which is closer to the dam.  I'm guessing if we had fished closer to the dam we might have had more of a chance for striper or hybrids.

New personal best longnose gar.

Freshwater Drum - Meldahl Dam - Ohio River
New personal best Freshwater Drum.  All of these were caught on 4" gizzard shad that we caught in the casting net in the Little Miami at Armleder.

Another nice Freshwater Drum.

The only fish I caught this trip was a channel cat that was inside a tire I picked up.
I started throwing tires in the boat on the last trip with Syd.  It's kinda silly not to.  We pass bye so many on the Southern part of the river and it's easy enough to throw a few in each time.   Hopefully by the end of summer it won't seem like there are as many on this section of river.  This is the section we canoe the most since it's the closest to home.

Managed to fit 10 in the boat this time along with several big pieces of metal.  Someone else had done the same thing... there was another pile of tires where I put in at Bass Island.  It's easier to see the National Scenic River without all the tires in the way!

Little Miami River - 20" Largemouth

This is our biggest Largemouth yet on the LMR.  Measured 20" and pretty fat.  Didn't have scale to weigh it.

Our best Saugeye on the LMR.  We caught two personal bests on this trip but Adam's big Lagemouth as much more exciting than the Saugeye.  We caught this one in our favorite spot right where the East Fork comes in.
